- Cornstarch — to buy200 g
- Farine de maïs (semoule fine) — to buy100 g
- Sugar — to buy60 g
- Baking powder — to buy1 tsp
- Cheese — to buy200 g
- Egg — to buy2
- Neutral oil — to buy1 L (frying)
Preparation
Mix the corn starch, corn flour, sugar and baking powder in a bowl.
Add the grated cheese and eggs, mix well by hand until you get a soft, even, slightly sticky dough.
Shape smooth golf-ball-sized balls by rolling the dough between your oiled hands.
Heat the frying oil to 160°C, a moderate temperature is key so the buñuelos cook through without burning outside.
Drop the balls in small batches and fry for 6-8 minutes, turning regularly, until golden and puffed up.
Drain on paper towel and serve warm, it is a must-have for end-of-year celebrations in Colombia.
